The Battle of Saratoga
Today we discussed the turning point in the war; the Battle of Saratoga. The colonists along with the help of Col. Daniel Morgan and his group of sharp shooters ended up foiling the British plan to cut off the New England Colonies from the rest. British General John Burgoyne surrendered to Continental General Gates resulting in the turning point of the war.
The Battle of Saratoga was a turning point because France jumped into the war in hopes to defeat and disgrace their bitter rival England. France provided much needed Naval resources because the Continental Congress had no Navy.
Spain jumped at the chance to get rid of England forever in America. Bernardo De Galvez attacked a string of British forts in the south west...thus thinning out British troops in the colonies.
